In 2006, a further five golf course are set to open in the Dominican Republic, making it a leading destination for golf holidays.

The Caribbean island already boasts 21 golf courses, including several by the renowned Dye family, such as Teeth of the Dog at Casa de Campo by Pete Dye and La Cana at Punta Cana by his son P.B Dye.

Britain's Nick Faldo has designed a course at the Roco Ki Resort, while South Africa's Nick Price is behind the Punta Blanca course, set along the white sandy beaches of the Punta Cana/Bavaro coast.

Jack Nicklaus has designed the Punta Espada course at the new Cap Cana complex, while Arnold Palmer and Tom Fazio are behind two further courses.

"We are counting the days until Jack Nicklaus' first Dominican golf course will be open for golf lovers from around the world," said Sam Logan, golf director at Cap Cana. "Punta Espada will be exceptional with eight holes directly on the ocean and ocean views from every hole."
