A Golf Blogger - Golf Times

An interesting morsel from Golf Times about - Where did the term "handicap" come from anyway.

Well, I'll tell you. The whole idea of a golf handicap dates to the 17th century when those crafty Scots borrowed the idea from horse racing. In the days of yore jockeys were handed their winnings in a cap and in time , hand-in-cap morphed into handicap. So you see race fans, having an accurate handicap makes for a better "horse race". Then again, who ever wants the race to be fair, you want to crush the other guy when ever possible.

He's got some interesting posts over at Golf Times
